Choosing Dog Furniture for Your Best Friend

Our dogs are not mere pets, but are often family members and our best friend.  They want to be part of our every activity.  Dogs are pack animals.  They need the closeness of their family and that is why they so often want to join us on the couch or in our beds.  One way to allow your dog to feel close and still not give up your sitting or sleeping spot is to provide dog furniture for your furry friend.

No matter what personality you are dealing with in your dog, there is dog furniture that fits perfectly.  First, you need to consider the size of your dog.  Larger dogs often prefer large pillows or fur-covered mats that allow them to stretch out and not feel cramped.  Smaller dogs may feel safer with enclosed dog furniture.  Keep in mind that, in the wild, dogs live in dens and even domestic dogs have that inborn instinct.  Then there are those dogs that don’t seem to know that’s what they are.  These ones will feel special with dog furniture shaped like your couch.

The next thing to consider when purchasing dog furniture is how your furry friend sleeps.  Some dogs are “ploppers”.  They find a spot and plop down, sleeping whatever way they land.  These dogs are more likely to prefer large pillow type dog furniture as opposed to an enclosed or round bed with sides.  On the other hand, if your dog curls up in a little ball when sleeping, you will probably want to consider a bed that has either sides or is enclosed. 

How comfortable is your dog when he is alone all day?  This is another consideration that can help you decide what type of dog furniture is best.  Dogs who experience some separation anxiety will prefer an enclosed piece of dog furniture.  This will feel more like the safety of a den.  Is your dog a little princess that would prefer soft material in a light color or a rugged watchdog that would fare better with a nylon cushion decked out in camouflage?  Consider personality when choosing pet furniture.

Once you have considered all these factors, you are bound to find the perfect piece of dog furniture for your best friend.  The colors are endless and you will find one that will become a natural part of your people furnishings.  Seeing the look of gratitude in your canine family member’s eyes will make it all worth it.
