calendar  Aug 26, 2021

Animal Pain Awareness Month is in September each year. The main motto of having such a month is to raise awareness among pet parents about animal pain and how to curb it as much as possible. Since animals cannot speak to us, it is imperative for us to pain close attention to them by observing their body language and a few other things. And since Animal Pain Awareness Month is just around the corner, here are some valuable insights that will help you know if your pet is in pain. Here, have a read.

Animal Pain Awareness Month: Signs Your Pet Is In Pain

Pain in animals can be spotted easily if you are pretty attentive. But sometimes, it can be difficult to tell. Here are some valuable insights that will help you figure out if your pet is in pain.

#1. Unusual Way Of Walking

One of the easiest signs your pet is in pain is their odd walking style. Carefully observe your pet and look for signs that discomfort them. And you’ll notice that they could be in pain just by their unusual way of walking. Even limping while walking is very likely that there’s something in their paws that’s bothering them. Moreover, if the limping persists for more than three days, it is highly recommended to go visit a vet.

#2. Different Noises Or Sounds

Pets or rather animals tend to make all sorts of different noises. Some include happy ones while others not so much. Thus, it’s imperative for pet parents to figure out the sounds that call for help. Moreover, if you are used to your pet and all their sounds, you will easily pick out the sounds or noises that need your immediate attention.

#3. Submissive Behavior

Submissive behavior is also a sign of distress and very likely your buddy is in pain. Watch out for signs if your pet suddenly loses interest in social interaction with other family members in your home, or just sits in one corner of the house all by himself. Generally, pets will go into submissive behavior when they are in pain, and noticing the signs is critical in order to make them feel better again.

#4. Aggressive

There are few animals that feel attacked when they are experiencing pain. Not knowing how to fight the pain away, they become pretty aggressive especially when you try and go near to them. In cats, you will notice a defensive hissing while in dogs you will notice an aggressive growling. These are potential signs that your buddy could be in some pain.

#5. Continuous Licking

Another sign that your buddy could be in pain is when they excessively lick themselves, especially the affected areas. You might even notice your buddy chewing and biting the affected area. Moreover, if the pain is in the mouth, your pet will drool excessively or grind its teeth. Watch out for these signs, and adhere to them as soon as you can.

#6. Loss Of Appetite

Appetite loss is another big sign that your buddy might be in some pain. Pets generally love their food. And if you notice them leaving some food behind or just walking away from the meals you just provided them with, then it is highly likely that they’re in need of some immediate attention. Most likely they are experiencing pain in their mouth or nearby areas and that is making it difficult for them to eat. So make sure you’re paying close attention.

Animal Pain Awareness Month is very important and we hope pet parents are doing all they can to keep their pets safe, healthy, and pain-free. Also, do not forget to spread the word about this important month with your neighbors and well-wishers. Stay safe, and take care!
