Dogs get infected with heartworms due to a bite from an infected mosquito. Heartworm larvae are deposited on the skin due to the mosquito bite. When the mosquito leaves, the heartworm larvae enter the dog’s body through the bite wound.
The initial dose of Heartgard Plus should be given within a month (30 days) after the dog’s first exposure to mosquitoes.
When replacing another heartworm preventive, the first dose of Heartgard Plus must be given within a month (30 days) of the last dose of the former preventive for your dog’s uninterrupted protection.
