20 Tips to Keep Your Pet Flea and Tick Free This Summer

Summer season is a season during which some people like going out and some like staying indoors. In both the cases, if you are a dog or a cat owner, flea and tick infestations are a big threat to your pet and protecting your pet from these dangerous parasites should be your priority this summer.

So, to help you protect your pooch from fleas and ticks, PetCareClub has come up with 20 tips to keep your pet flea and tick free this summer.

  1. Don’t allow your pets to go out in the bushy area without any proper protection.
  2. Make sure your backyard has plants that repel these parasites like lavender and
  3. Keep your backyard or garden clean.
  4. Trim the bushes and grass regularly and clean withered leaves before they pile up.
  5. Flea and tick thrive in the damp and warm atmosphere so make sure your backyard doesn’t have any such space.
  6. Treat your yard with food-grade Diatomaceous Earth for protection from insects and parasites.
  7. Stay out of pest infested areas, wooded areas, grassy pastures
  8. Vacuum clean the beddings, curtains, sofas, carpet and all of the places your pooch or kitty visits to make sure your house is flea eggs and larvae free.
  9. Wash the cloths of your pets and the bed sheets with warm water.
  10. Whenever you come back home from a long stroll or hiking, check your dog or cat for any ticks or fleas.
  11. Even in leisure times once in awhile feeling your pet’s body(In the ears, eyelids, belly, anal region, above and below the neck) for ticks and fleas.
  12. Get your pet a cool flea and tick collar that repels and treats these parasites.
  13. If you are not interested in collars then you can secure your pet with the help of oral or topical flea and tick treatments.
  14. Bath your pooch with shampoos that treat fleas and ticks.
  15. If you have two or more than two pets, ensure that you secure all of them at once otherwise, one infested pet can transfer the infestation to other pets as well.
  16. If you find one or two fleas or ticks on your companion, don’t ignore that because a single flea or tick can lead to hundreds of eggs.
  17. If you are administering flea and tick treatments, make sure you comply with the dosage timelines.
  18. Read the product label carefully before administering any flea and tick products.
  19. Don’t pluck ticks directly, use tweezers to remove them.
  20. Check yourself properly after coming back from bushy areas because sometimes ticks or fleas get on to your pet with your help.
