calendar  Jan 29, 2019

What is the cutest thing on the planet? Well, puppies would be the answer, right? These little balls of fur are arguably the cutest things ever and pet parent simply love them. But unfortunately these bundles of joy can get infected by the dreaded F word – Fleas. Creepy crawly fleas are one of the worst things that stick on the fur of your tiny little cuddly friend(s). Fret not, there are many solutions to this problem and one of them is getting rid of these pests at home.

Home Remedies to Get Rid Of Fleas on Puppies

The following are home remedies to get rid of the dreaded fleas on your puppy. Carefully read through the points before opting for one

#1. Thorough Bathing Using Warm Water

Many puppy parents might not know this but giving your tiny little munchkin a thorough bath is one of the best ways to eliminate or even detect fleas at its early stage. Fleas absolutely hate cleanliness and hence it is obvious that you bathe your puppy on a regular basis. Make sure the bathing water is lukewarm.

#2. Regular Grooming Using a Flea Comb

One of the safest and easiest ways to treat fleas in young puppies is to groom them well using a flea comb. Up to 90% of flea eggs and close to 50% larvae are removed if you groom your tiny mate regularly and properly.

#3. Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs)

These are useful in preventing immature fleas from maturing into biting ones. They generally last a little longer (say, up to seven months) with only a single application. IGRs are one of the safest ways to naturally treat fleas in puppies because they attack the insects and are not harmful to your little one(s).

#4. Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

Apple Cider Vinegar is very helpful in balancing the pH levels and fleas absolutely loathe that. It creates an acidic environment outside the puppy’s body but balances the alkalinity that is present inside. Here’s how you can make the rinse:

  • Mix four ounces of water with six ounces of apple cider vinegar
  • Add ¼ tablespoon of salt.

There you go, the rinse is ready. Now, pour the rinse in a spray bottle and shake well. Then spray the solution all over the puppy’s body (avoid the eyes) especially under the belly.

The above-mentioned ways are effective home remedies to get rid of fleas on puppies. If suppose your vet is unavailable due to some reasons and you suspect fleas on your puppy, then do not hesitate to opt for any one of these home remedies. It is better to do something now than wait to get in touch with your vet and later regret not having done something earlier.
