Make This Thanksgiving Special For Your Pet

calendar  Nov 06, 2023

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and the festive excitement is in the air. But being a pet parent, you would also be worried about making the celebration safe and yet special for your furry companion. You would not want them to feel left out, but ensuring their safety in the hustle and bustle going on in the house is equally important.

Here are a few suggestions to make this Thanksgiving pet-friendly.

Prepare the house

Your dog or cat would suddenly be surrounded by unknown faces in the form of guests. This can make them either nervous or jump with joy. In either case, taking some safety measures in advance and preparing the house well for the guests as well as your pet is the right way to go.

Plan Thanksgiving-themed pet activities

Engage in Thanksgiving-themed pet activities to actually celebrate the festival with your pet and strengthen your bond with them.

  • If a pet club around you has arranged any race or a game for pets and pet parents for the occasion, be a participant. You can start with training your pet before the event and spend quality time with them.
  • Go for a morning hike and make your pet burn extra calories before the feast. You can create a heap of fallen leaves and let your pet jump on it to fill them with happiness.
  • If your pet has all that is enough to keep them healthy and happy, help other pets in need. Donate some pet essentials to the pet shelters and make this Thanksgiving special for them too.

Make available a pet-friendly feast

While you are having a sumptuous meal, why should your pet eat their routine food? You can prepare a special feast for your pet and can also add safe and tasty food to their meal. Here are some of the healthy and safe options to satisfy your pet’s taste buds:-

  • A small amount of Turkey meat without bones and skin
  • Plain potatoes, sweet potatoes or carrots
  • Green beans and plain peas
  • Unseasoned corn (without the cob)
  • Pumpkin

Keep away the toxic food

Just the way pet-friendly feasts can fill them with joy, eating food that can be harmful to their health proves to be dangerous. Knowing what not to serve to your pet is equally important for their safety. Take a look at the things that you should keep away from your pet:-

  • Table scrap (human food that is high in salt and sugar)
  • Chocolates, coffee and macadamia nuts
  • Onions and garlic
  • Raisins and grapes
  • Alcohol
  • Foods that contain xylitol

To conclude

Thanksgiving is all about feasting and celebrating with our loved ones, and your furry buddies are an integral part of your family. Instead of leaving them in a secluded place, make arrangements to have a pet-friendly celebration this season and make it a joyous experience for both you and your pet.
